We love to travel. Love love love. Especially to places with palm trees, beaches and sunshine. We love exploring cities and going on adventures. We love fish tacos and lobster rolls. And this June, we got to do all that at home in Boston.
Lobster Rolls and Fish Tacos:
We have a rule when we travel to warm places: always eat outside. When summer hits Boston, we apply that as much as possible. Our favorite summer spot is Barking Crab in Fort Point. There is plenty of outdoor seating under their huge tent as well as the adjacent patio. (For those of you who must have air-conditioning, don’t fret… there’s an indoor space as well.)
So why do we love the crab shack so much? It’s outside, on the water, with a great view of the city. There is live music. There are picnic tables. There are buoys, lobster traps, twinkle lights, netting, funny signs. The drinks are cold and the food is delicious.
J is always on the hunt for naked lobster rolls (no-mayo) and the Barking Crab’s are the best. The Mann’s favorite is the Stuffie: a chouriço-stuffed quahog. The menu is full of fried classics as well as healthier options such as seared scallops, grilled tuna and a gorgeous strawberry salad. Best part of all: there’s a public dock for boaters and nothing goes better with a day of boating than some fried goodness, cold beers and dark & stormy’s.
Our search for fish tacos in the Boston area has just begun and so far El Potro takes the lead. The Mann likes his fish grilled, not fried and El Potro offers just that, with cabbage, cilantro and cheese. Fresh, delicious, filling.
We also LOVE Lolita Cocina in Back Bay. It’s dark, swanky, sexy and eating there is a full-on experience… From a bowl of smoking, tequila-soaked, palette cleansing shaved ice to the green apple cotton candy topped with pop rocks and temp tattoos that come with the check. We love this spot for date night, but plan ahead, reservations are tough to get on weekends.
Stay tuned for so many more fish tacos from our 2016 California road trip! But for now, here’s one more Boston fish taco photo from El Centro in the South End: they let you mix and match – yum!
